Bursary boost for outstanding student
A former Ralph Allen School pupil, who was one of the youngest A-level candidates in Bath has won a prestigious bursary to help fund her university studies.
Clare Tyson, who left Ralph Allen after completing her studies in the summer, has been awarded the Nancy Catchpole Bursary by the British Federation of Women Graduates.
The bursary is handed to a Bath sixth-former who intends to study sciences at university to help pay for their course books,
Clare, who achieved outstanding A-level results aged 17 having jumped a year's schooling while at primary school gained three A’s in physics, chemistry and mathematics, and will be heading to New Hall at Cambridge University next year.
She said: “It was really satisfying to receive the bursary as it is becoming so hard for students financially. I was really surprised as I didn't know anything about it at all until a letter came through the door. It was a nice surprise.
I think bursaries like this are a really good idea, as it's important to recognise positive achievements.”
Currently working at SunChemicals in Midsomer Norton, Clare will be studying natural science when she heads to university next September.
Headteacher Libby Lee said: “Claire has been an outstanding student and I wish her every success at Cambridge University and in her future career, whatever that may be.”
